Request for information

In your email of 6 September, you asked for a list of all councils that have ever:

1. rejected either fully or partially a Local Government Ombudsman report identifying maladministration and injustice and/or rejected the LGO's recommendations.

2. reneged either fully or partially on a local settlement agreed between the LGO and the council.

1. I attach a list of authorities that have failed to meet the Ombudsmen's recommendations after a finding of maladministration causing injustice.

2. We do not keep records of councils that have reneged on local settlements. However, if such a situation were to occur, and the complainant informs the Ombudsman about it, the usual process would be for the Ombudsman to make further investigations and to issue a formal report. Any such authorities who still did not provide a satisfactory remedy would therefore be included in the enclosed list.

If you feel I have not dealt properly with your request, you have the right to appeal and, should you wish to do so, I can supply a copy our internal complaints procedure. You also have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner to determine whether your request has been properly dealt with. You should note however that the Commissioner will not consider any complaint where you have not first exhausted our internal complaints process or where there has been undue delay in contacting him.
