FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0113/2010 
 
I refer to your request for information dated 15 February 2010, which was received by 
Strathclyde Police on that date. Your request has now been considered and on 15 March 2010, 
a decision was made to grant your request.   
 
For ease of reference, I have provided a response to the questions posed by you, as detailed 
below. 
 
The number of incidents as a force you have recorded where an police officer has been 
assaulted in the line of duty. 
The number of these incidents the force have reported to the procurator fiscal. 
It would be most helpful if you could provide information in relation to incidents treated as 
assaults at common law and also in terms of Police (Scotland Act 1967, s. 41(1)(a) 
 
Please find attached Table 1, which shows the number of recorded and detected Assaults on 
Police Officers for the Calendar Year 2009.  Please refer to Key Code 1, at the foot of the 
Table, regarding Common Law and Statutory Offences. 
 
The number of these incidents the force have issued alternative methods of justice (e.g. 
Fixed Penalty Notice) 
 
In relation to the above question, I can advise you that Strathclyde Police does not hold any of 
the information requested by you.  In terms of Section 17 of the Act, this letter represents a 
formal notice that information is not held. 
 
By way of explanation, Fixed Penalty Notices can not be issued for Police Assaults, or for 
any type of assault. 
 
I hope this information is helpful, however, if you are not satisfied with the way in which 
your request has been dealt with, you are entitled in the first instance to request a review of 
the decision made by the Force.  Should you wish to request such a review, please write to
