Dear Mr Wyllie,
Freedom of Information Act 2000 – RFI20100198
Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act (‘the Act’) of 08 February 2010,
seeking:
“Information about correspondence between the BBC Trust and the National Audit Office about the
role and work of the National Audit Office in respect of the BBC since 1st January 2009.”
In order to identify and locate the information that you have asked for, we need you to further
clarify your request. In particular, it would be useful to know more about which specific area you
are interested. You asked for ‘information about correspondence’. This is a very broad phrase.
The main stream of work which involves the National Audit Office (NAO) and the BBC Trust is
the ongoing programme of independent value for money reviews about various aspects of the
BBC’s operation which the NAO carries (see:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/our_work/vfm/index.shtml). This means that there would be a large
amount of relevant information held by the BBC Trust. There may also be information held
regarding the broader relationship between the BBC and NAO.
Please clarify which areas of BBC Trust and NAO activity you are interested in and we will be able
to further consider your request. Please be aware that if it will take us more than two and a half
days to deal with your request; under section 12 of the Act we are allowed to refuse to handle
the request if it would exceed the appropriate limit.1 As such, we recommend that you provide us
with as much detail as possible to assist us in identifying the information that you seek.
1 The appropriate limit has been set by the Regulations (SI 2004/3244) as being £450 (equivalent to two and a half days
work, at an hourly rate of £25).
Your request is on hold until we hear back from you. The period during which a request is on
hold is not included in the 20 working-day target for us to respond. We will close your request if
we have not heard back from you after 20 working days from the date of this letter.
Yours sincerely,
Katie Paxie
