Dear Mr. Bimmler,

Freedom of Information Appeal MPS Reference No: 2010060002125

Following discussions with the Information Commissioner's Office and partner agencies the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), having given due regard to the aforementioned consultations, wish to alter the original stance of neither confirming nor denying holding `the list' of universities referred to in your original request to that of confirming we do not hold the information as described.

Accordingly, the MPS do not hold `the list' as held by BIS but only those falling within the MPS area. Therefore, In deference to section 16 of the Act, the MPS are willing to state that whilst we do not hold `the list', we do have information from `the list' consisting of one or more universities within our force area who have applied for funding under the project.

It is also pertinent to state that should you request additional detail of what the MPS holds in this regard, the MPS will not divulge the identities of the institution/s or the number of institution/s the MPS holds information on relevant to the PREVENT strategy. This information would be withheld by the application of Sections 24, 31 and 38 of the Act.

Should you have any further inquiries concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0207 161 3649 or at the address at the top of this letter, quoting the reference number above.

Yours sincerely

Nigel Shankster
