Thank you for your e-mail of 10th March in which you ask for an internal 
review on the time taken to respond to your Freedom of Information (FoI) 
request asking for a list of universities targeted to work closely with Special 
Branch to prevent Islamic extremism. 
 
I confirm that I was not involved in the initial handling of your request. 
 
I am sorry that you have not had a response. The unit dealing with your 
request tell me they sent a reply to you on 22nd February 2010, but clearly this 
failed to reach you. The response is now enclosed at the annex to this letter. 
 
I apologise on behalf of the Department for the length of time it has taken to 
provide you with a response.

Thank you for your e-mail of 04/02/2010 concerning the statement made 
recently by the Minister of State for Higher Education and Intellectual Property 
(David Lammy). Your request has been handled as a request for information 
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  
 
You have specifically requested the following information: 
 
A list of universities targeted to work closely with Special Branch and other 
police officers to prevent Islamic extremism. 

 
I can confirm that the Home Office does not hold the information that you 
requested and therefore we are unable to respond to this request. However, 
this information maybe retained by the Department of Business, Innovation 
and Skil s who I understand you have also sent a copy of this letter to.  
 
If you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an independent 
internal review of our handling of your request by submitting your complaint 
within two months to the below address quoting reference 13952.
