I am writing in response to your request for information dated 03^rd February 2010 in which you requested the following information:

“…the number of employment and industrial tribunal cases that the Royal Mail Group Ltd have had filed against them for the years 2007, 2008, 2009.”

I have provided the requested information in annex 1 to this letter. Please note that for business purposes this information is collated every six months by financial year (April - March). We do not therefore hold the information by calendar year as you requested. However, we have provided all information held for the years specified in your request.

To put this information into context, Royal Mail Group's businesses directly employ over 170,000 people in the UK. You can see from the table that the number of cases where disputes need to be dealt with through an Employment Tribunal involves a small fraction of our workforce. It is also important to recognise that the enclosed figures represent only the total number of Employment Tribunal claims made against Royal Mail Group. They do not reflect the number of cases where judgements have been made against Royal Mail Group.

I hope that this suitably answers your request. If for any reason you are not satisfied with this response, you do have the right to request a review.
