Dear Sir / Madam

Thank you for your email of 03 February 2010, where you requested information
about how often Oakthorpe Road undergoes Safety Checks.
The information you requested is set out below and I hope you find it helpful.

Oakthorpe Road is one of Enfield’s Borough Roads, therefore it is inspected every
six months for defects in the carriageway and footway.  A dedicated Highway Officer
undertakes the inspections on foot and repairs are instructed in accordance with this
Authority’s intervention levels.  The intervention levels are 40mm in carriageways
and 25mm in footways, however all highway inspections are undertaken with an
analysis of risk in the background, and the appropriate repair will be commissioned
where necessary.

The road was last inspected as part of our programmed inspection regime, on 29
September 2009. Subsequent add hock inspections may have been undertaken in
response to enquires.  I can confirm that during the last inspection a number of
carriageway defects were identified and have been repaired.

In addition to the six monthly safety inspections, Enfield’s carriageways are subject
to a detailed condition survey every two years, by an independent consultant
organisation.  The information collected from this survey is used, along with other
relevant data sources, to prepare the programme for carriageway resurfacing. A
limited section of Oakthorpe road was resurfaced during 2008, however there is no
further resurfacing work identified in our forward programme.

I note your comments regarding sections of the road being rough to drive over and I
am happy to organise a meeting between yourself and one of my Highway Officers
to discuss any concerns you have, on site.  If you would like to contact Enfield
Highways to arrange a meeting, please call 0208 379 2152 or use the address
included below.
