Dear Mr Thomas |
|
Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000: Request for information
Thank you for your request for information that was logged on 01 February 2010. You have requested the following information:
It has been brought to my attention that the motorcycle parking bay that was located in Little Argyll Street - W1 has now been replaced by a set of double yellow lines, hence the bay does no longer exists.
Please would you let me know the reason(s) for taking this motorcycle parking bay AND the location of any newly created motorcycle parking bay in the area to replace the one in Little Argyll Street.
In view of your request, I can advise you of the following:
The reason for the relocation of the motorcycle bay was in conjunction with the pedestrianization proposals in Little Argyll Street. As a result, these bays are to be relocated to Great Castle Street, between Great Portland Street and Market Place, on the northern side of the carriageway.
Since Little Argyll Street was to be pedestrainised, a London Cycle Hire Scheme was approved for the new footway. Following Traffic Management consultations, the pedestrianization was then revoked, but the Cycle Hire Scheme had to be retained. Little Argyll Street has been redesigned to accommodate the Cycle Hire Scheme, which left no space to retain the motorcycle parking bays. Therefore, the new location in Great Castle Street will have to go ahead.
If you are not satisfied with this response please set out your reasons in writing and send to:
