Dear colleague
Norwich Independent Commission on Climate Change
As you will know, the city of Norwich is already a leading player in the field of environmental improvement and climate change.
Norwich City Council is keen to see the city stay in the forefront of this work, and to see the city well prepared for future developments. We have therefore established a Norwich Independent Commission on Climate Change (NICCC) to get the views of people who live and work in Norwich on how they think climate change will affect their future, and what the city should be doing to prepare. I attach with this letter the Commission's terms of reference, which includes the membership of the NICCC board.
We propose that the Commission will gather evidence, views and information during January/February 2010. The Commission will then use the evidence gathered to publish a report to Norwich City Council's Executive in March 2010. The main objective is that this report will act as independent advice to the way City Council services should be planned and delivered in the future to ensure sustainability. However, we also hope it will help to stimulate ideas about how to develop a more integrated approach to climate change work across all organisations in the city.
The Commissioners have carefully considered who they should ask for evidence and opinions. It is vitally important that we get a cross section of views, both from experts, but also from people and organisations that play a major role in the life of the city of Norwich. I am writing to you to let you know that the Commission have identified you and/or your organisation as a potential consultee, whose opinions on this subject they would greatly value. I do hope that you will be able to contribute and let us know what you think.
We plan to email the consultation pack to you in early January 2010. The consultation period will run from 8 January to 12 February 2010. There will be several ways of letting us know what you think:
Email to [email address] with your consultation form
Logging onto our website and searching for “Eco Issues” under our A-Z of services
By attending a consultation interview with some of the NICCC Commissioners (dates to be announced in early January), or by
Contacting one of our board members.
I do hope that you will be able to take part this innovative exercise, which will really help the City Council ensure that its services are sustainable for the future, and help the city overall develop a co-ordinated response to climate change issues.
Further details on the consultation will follow, but for now I wish you the very best for the festive period, and I look forward to working with you on this.
Yours sincerely

Councillor Brian Morrey
Deputy Leader and Executive Member
for Sustainable City Development, Norwich City Council
