REQUEST FOR INFORMATION |
|
|
THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 |
|
Dear Mr Walker, |
|
I refer to your recent request for information, questions below:
What evidence is there that schools' equal opportunity policies are effective in combating racism?
What are schools in your area doing to promote racial equality and promote community cohesion? Examples of measures deemed to be good practice and recognised as being successful would be useful.
Can you provide me with any evidence that the measures listed above have been effective (if this has not already been done)?
Are further measures required to either maintain trust in the teaching profession or protect children and young people?
I can advise that no information is held in relation to your questions. As detailed in your request, all schools are required to have equal opportunity and community cohesion policies. As part of audits carried out in schools last summer progress on the community cohesion policies was checked, but this related more to whether the schools had begun work on them rather than the effectiveness of any such policies. This information may be held within schools, but as schools are separate authorities under the Act, you will need to contact them directly.
For information, all schools are regularly inspected by Ofsted and the Inspection Reports, which are freely available on the Internet at http://www.ofsted.gov.uk, contain much of the information you require. For example, `How well equality of opportunity is promoted and discrimination eliminated' and `How well does the school contribute to community cohesion' are standard categories that are graded within the reports and examples of good practice included within the narrative.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request or wish to make a complaint or appeal against any decision we have made in response to your request you should write in the first instance to David Sackfield by e-mail [email address] or via the following address:
