FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0013/10
I refer to your request for information dated 8 January 2010, which was received by
Strathclyde Police on same date. Your request has now been considered and on 22 January
2010, a decision was made to grant your request. As such, the information you have
requested is detailed below.
Please note that Detached, Strathclyde Joint Police Board and Scottish Police Service
Authority posts have not been counted. Probationary Officers are counted as Police Officers.
Agency staff and Special Constables are not counted.
1. The total number of staff employed by Strathclyde Police
There are currently 11, 014 staff as of the date of your request.
2. The number of Police Officers (of all ranks) employed by Strathclyde Police
There are 8269 Police Officers.
3. The number of civilian Staff employed by Strathclyde Police.
There are 2745 Members of Police Staff.
4. The number of positions within Strathclyde Police that are held by Police Officers which
are office based - either for the entire job or at least 75% of the working week.
There are 781 Police Officers whose post role classification is either ‘Police – Operational
Support’, ‘Police – Organisational Support or ‘Police in Support Role’

5. Following on from number 4 the percentages of these officers who have a rank of
Inspector or below.
729 of the 781 Police Officers hold the rank of Inspector or below, which equates to 93.34%.

the decision made by the Force. Should you wish to request such a review, please write to
