Dear Mr Barnett
Re: Freedom of Information request number 1566
Thank you for your request for information.
The information below has been supplied in response to your request for the
above mentioned information. We hope the information supplied satisfies your original request.
The name, frequency and distribution/circulation of your council newspaper (by council newspaper I mean the most frequently published newspaper or magazine intended for mass distribution covering more than one topic)
The magazine is called "Thurrock" and copies are issued to each household approximately twice a year.
How much it cost to produce and distribute said newspaper in the last full financial year, and how much was budgeted from council resources in the financial year 2009/2010
Staff costs are impossible to estimate since there are no staff dedicated solely to this publication, please see question 9 for further details.
2006, Issue 1 - Print costs £14,978.
2006, Issue 2 - Print costs £14,978.
2007, Issue 3 - Print costs £14,978.

2008, Issue 6 - Print costs £14,978.
2009, Issue 7 - Print costs £14,978.
Distribution costs on the magazines amount to £4,415.63 per issue, however issue 7 was £4,249.57.
How much of that cost is offset by advertising
The magazine was started in Summer 2006 and the following are the advertsing incomes for each issue.
2006, Issue 1 - £5,850.
2006, Issue 2 - £3,150.
2007, Issue 3 - £5,600.

2008, Issue 5 - £3,150.
2008, Issue 6 - £1,900.
2009, Issue 7 - Nil
How much of that advertising, if any, comes from external sources (ie not from your authority's budgets)?
Internal advertising is not charged, therefore these amounts are the same as detailed in question 3.
Which other public sector partners pay to run advertising in your newspaper, eg PCTs?
Sometimes the PCT & DC provide advertising, but nothing in the most recent edition.
Whether recruitment advertising forms part of the advertising in
your newspaper?
Recruitment advertising is not included in the magazine

The number of people employed to put your newspaper/newsletter
together, including total cost and staff organisation chart
There are no staff dedicated to the magazine, there are currently three writing staff in Communications who undertake story-writing and editing duties (plus the design team that consists of three staff). The work is carried out as part of their day-to-day job.
If you are unhappy with the Council's response you can make a complaint via the
