Dear Mr Johnson
I refer to your recent Freedom of Information Request. Your request asked for the following information: -
Your request
1) How many findings of maladministration has the Local Government Ombudsman
made against your Council over the last 10 years.
2) How many findings of maladministration has your Council, either in full or in
part, has refused to accept.
3) How many findings of maladministration has your Council accepted but refused
to comply, either in full or in part, with the local government ombudsman's
recommended remedy.
Council's response
I can confirm the following information with regards to the points raised in your request above.
1) How many findings of maladministration has the Local Government Ombudsman
made against your Council over the last 10 years.
In the last ten years the Local Government Ombudsman has dealt with 4 maladministration claims against the Council.
2) How many findings of maladministration has your Council, either in full or in
part, has refused to accept.
South Tyneside Council has not refused to accept in part or fully any of the Ombudsman findings.
3) How many findings of maladministration has your Council accepted but refused
to comply, either in full or in part, with the local government ombudsman's
recommended remedy.
South Tyneside Council has not accepted or refused to comply with any finding of mal
administration found by the Ombudsman.

Appeal procedure

This should be sent to us within four weeks and must clearly state the reasons for your appeal and your FOI reference number. Please note the Council must deal with all appeals in the first instance before being directed to the Information Commissioner.

Should you remain dissatisfied, you can appeal against the decision by writing to the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF quoting the above FOI reference number. The Information Commissioner is the Government's Independent Body responsible for overseeing the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
