Fares Revision 2010

Effective date:

2 January 2010

From 2 January 2010, fares will change. A number of the changes are directly linked to the rollout of pay as you go on National Rail in London. A separate briefing note is available outlining the main features of pay as you go on National Rail.

Oyster Single fares (pay as you go)

On buses and trams

On Tube, DLR, London Overground

For all Oyster single fares (including National Rail) and cash fares on TfL rail services from 2 January 2010, visit single fare finder (make sure you use the 2010 version).

On National Rail services

Pay as you go will be extended to additional National Rail services in London.

Like current National Rail cash fares, the National Rail Oyster single fare scale is a zonal structure. The following tariffs will apply to cash single fares on National Rail services and these will also apply to Oyster single fares, i.e:

The TOCs have set the fares for Oyster pay as you go on the National Rail network based on the same zones as those used for Travelcards.

5-10 year olds on National Rail

Children aged 5-10 pay child rate fares on most National Rail services in London.

The 5-10 map (Appendix 2) shows the routes on which 5-10 year olds will be charged a fare

16+ Oyster photocard holders

Children aged over 16 pay adult-rate fares on most National Rail services in London

The 16+ map (Appendix 3) shows the routes on which 16+ Oyster photocard holders will be charged an adult fare.

National Railcard holders

Card holders need to register your Oyster card with your Railcard details; you can do this at all Tube and London Overground and some National Rail ticket offices. Please remember to carry your Railcard with you on your journey.

Entry and Exit Charges

Adult

The basis of adult rate Entry and Exit Charges at all stations* will change to the Zone 1-6 TfL-NR Oyster single through fare, equivalent to £6 at peak times and £4.30 at off-peak times.

Under-16s

Entry and Exit Charges for 11-15, Under-14, 14-15 and Child Oyster photocard holders at TfL stations will be 65p.

Child rate Entry and Exit Charges at NR stations* will be £2.45 at peak and £1 at off-peak times (except for 5-10 Oyster photocard holders at stations served by trains offering journeys at TfL fares). Entry and Exit Charges for 5-10 Oyster photocard holders at TfL stations and at NR stations* served by trains offering journeys at TfL fares will be zero.

New Deal

Standard adult rate will apply but the Entry charge will be set at 20p less.

National Railcard holders

The Entry Charge on Oyster cards loaded with an NR Railcard Discount Entitlement will be set at 10p less than the standard adult rate at off-peak times, i.e. £4.20, £3.90 or £5.60.

Maximum journey times

When customers use Oyster to pay as you go, the amount of time they are allowed to spend making a single, pay as you go, point to point, journey on Tube, DLR, London Overground and National Rail services is limited.

Every journey has its own maximum journey time, regardless of the route taken. This is linked to the day, time of day travelled and the number of zone boundaries crossed.

The maximum journey time can vary between 70 minutes (travelling in one zone outside Zones 1 or 2 on Monday - Friday between 04:30 and 19:00) and 4 hours 50 minutes (travelling across 18 zones - e.g. Amersham to Grays - on a Sunday or Bank Holiday).

The tables below shows the general rules applied for maximum journey times.

If you exceed the maximum journey time, you will be charged for an unfinished journey (up to £6.50) when you finally touch out, and for an un-started journey (also up to £6.50).

Cash single fares

Bus and tram

Single fares are frozen at £2 per journey.

One Day and 3 Day tickets

These Railcard Discounted Travelcards will no longer be referred to as “Kids for a Quid” and they will only be available from the ticket office.

Season Tickets

New rates will apply.

7 Day Bus & Tram Pass season tickets will increase as follows:

Monthly and longer period Bus & Tram Pass season tickets will also increase proportionately. These are available to view at tfl.gov.uk/fares under `Fares and Tickets 2010'.

Travelcards

Prices are generally frozen, except for Travelcard season tickets valid in 2 zones outside Zone 1.

Monthly and longer period season tickets will also increase proportionately.

Monthly and longer period season tickets will also decrease proportionately.

Other season tickets

Most London Overground point-to-point season tickets will be withdrawn.
