CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE OF ADVERTISEMENTS IN BASSETLAW NEWS AND OTHER COUNCIL PUBLICATIONS

The advertising industry is self-regulated. Therefore, it relies upon advertisers and publishers to monitor the content of any advertisement in line with the British Code of Advertising practice.

As a publisher of adverts Bassetlaw District Council has to accept some responsibility for ensuring that adverts published in its newspapers or other media abide by the code. However, the primary obligation lies with the advertiser.

The following list of conditions of acceptance will be used as a guide to the Communications Unit and the Editorial Panel: -

  1. All advertisers should endeavour to make sure that the contents of their advertisements are accurate and not misleading to the public

2. Bassetlaw District Council will not guarantee the insertion of an advertisement into the Bassetlaw News.

3. If an advert is misprinted or an error/omission is made which did not relate to the signed off proof agreed between the advertiser and Bassetlaw District Council reasonable steps will be made to compensate the advertiser. This will include a refund or agreement to print the advertisement in a future edition of the Bassetlaw News free of charge.

4. Bassetlaw District Council reserves the right to: -

5. Cancellations from an advertiser will be accepted up to 10 working days before the publication goes to print.

6. The advertiser is ultimately liable for any costs, damages, or other charges falling upon the Council as the results of legal actions or threatened legal actions arising from the publication of its advertisements. Advertisers will indemnify Bassetlaw District Council against all claims and demands brought against Bassetlaw District Council as a consequence of it publishing any advertisement placed by advertisers which leads to such claims and demands being brought

7. The Council shall not be liable for any loss or damage outside its control or occasioned by shortcomings in the production or distribution processes of a publication in which any advertisement was scheduled to appear.

  1. The placing of an order for the insertion of an advertisement shall amount to an acceptance of the above conditions.
