Re: Your request for information
Thank you for your email dated 3rd January 2010 and subsequent chase email of 2nd
February 2010. As the information you requested is not personal or environmental it
has been processed in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Initially, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our apology for the delay in
responding to your request. This is due to us encountering problems obtaining the
information from the relevant department. Please be assured we are currently
carrying out a thorough review of all our office procedures to minimise the possibility
of any future delays.
I have investigated your request and am pleased to attach a copy of a document
which addresses your questions as detailed below. Please note that this information
covers the period 2006 – 2009. The document is entitled,
“10-6485 RFI Statistics.pdf”
‘Numerical statistics in order by year during the period of 1999 to 2009 (or as far back
as you can go without charging me) for the following;
1. How many children were taken into local authority care on interim care orders
and emergency protection orders under the category of emotional harm during
the above period?
2. Out of these children who were taken into care for emotional harm how many
of them were specifically for domestic violence between their parents
3. Out of these children who were put into care for domestic violence how many
were returned to family or extended family?
4. Out of these how many children were put on full care orders?
5. Of the children put on full care orders how many were adopted during these
periods.’
We note that you have requested that we only provide y
ou with information that would
not exceed the appropriate limit. However for completeness and for your reference
please find below the estimated cost of locating and retrieving the information for the
period 1999 – 2005. Please note that any further request for this information within
the next 60 working days will be chargeable at the amount detailed.

Our cost estimate is based on a manual search of approximately 2,625 cases with an
average of four files each at 10 minutes per file in order to retrieve the information
requested.
