Thanks Margaret. There seems to have been a breakdown in our
communication in response to your freedom of imformation request. It
appears we should have responded direct to you. Detailed below is our
response to your request. In general I think waiting lists are a bit
misleading because our lists do not seem that large but are more than
aware that there is significant hidden demand. If you require more help
or information please contact Dave Woolwich here in my service. The
council has a total number of 35 sites of which 9 are self managed.
There are a total number of 550 allotments distributed over the borough
. In practical terms it has tended to be the larger sites who have opted
for self management due to the financial viability Therefore waiting
lists are only maintained by the authority for council managed sites.
The current waiting lists maintained at a township not site level a
current total of 232 Rochdale has 136, Middleton 18, Heywood
24.Pennines54 .Waiting lists are not currently closed .In terms of new
provision currently one new site is under construction at Valley road
Middleton, which will be complete by march 2010. This is an innovative
project involving natural play, an edible trail and traditional
allotments and has had national recognition
