Q1. What evidence is there that schools' equal opportunity policies are effective in combating racism?
Most equal opportunity work in BwD is done on the back of community cohesion work. It is this community cohesion work that will see the biggest impact on combating racism.
(see Blakewater/OLSJ Case Study)
Q2. What are schools in your area doing to promote racial equality
and promote community cohesion? Examples of measures deemed to be good practice and recognised as being successful would be useful.
. Every school in Blackburn with Darwen has a racial equality policy and a community cohesion policy in place.
Q3. Can you provide me with any evidence that the measures listed
above have been effective (if this has not already been done)?
There is a plethora of community cohesion work taking place across Blackburn with Darwen, ranging from school twinning, to community cohesion events run by the pupils themselves. (See attached documentation)
Q4. Are further measures required to either maintain trust in the
teaching profession or protect children and young people?
Blackburn with Darwen continually monitors and assesses the measures needed to keep children and young people safe.
