Dear Mr Walker

Information Request: FR1665

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 30/12/2009. Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act and is detailed below in italics with our response.

Your original request is detailed below in italics.

1) What evidence is there that schools' equal opportunity policies

are effective in combating racism?

2) What are schools in your area doing to promote racial equality

and promote community cohesion? Examples of measures deemed to be

good practice and recognised as being successful would be useful.

3) Can you provide me with any evidence that the measures listed

above have been effective (if this has not already been done)?

4) Are further measures required to either maintain trust in the

teaching profession or protect children and young people?

Our Response

Much of the information you have requested is not specifically recorded and therefore not held by the Council and would not come within the Freedom of Information Act 2000. However we are able to advise the following which we believe may assist you.

  1. Negative outcomes would be reported via OfSTED inspection report or the School Improvement Partner (SIP) notes of visit. We would also be able to trace through incidents via county reporting of racist incidents. This information would be reported through our management information systems, ONE /EMS.

  1. This would be recorded through OfSTED inspections/SIP reports and school Self Evaluation Frameworks against individual schools and you should either contact the schools directly regarding this or the information is available via the OfSTED website. We can however confirm that there has been training and information sessions for schools/Head Teachers on the PREVENT and County County agendas.
