Dear Leeds Metropolitan University,

Leeds Met's library service is one of the few in the country that
offers a continuous 24 hour opening. Can I ask,

1. What is the cost of running the library service to the
university.

2. Is the university able to estimate what it costs to keep the
library services open between the hours of midnight and 8am each
year?

3. The number of unique students that use the library between the
hours of midnight and 8am each year?

This email sets out the University's response to your request for
information. It has been processed in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I confirm that the University holds some of the information that you
requested. I will address each of your questions in turn:

1. What is the cost of running the library service to the University?

For the academic year 2010-11, the cost of running the department of
Libraries and Learning Innovation is £5,112,000. The department provides
integrated library, virtual learning environment, portal, learning skills
development and reprographics services.

2. Is the University able to estimate what it costs to keep the
library services open between the hours of midnight and 8am each year?

£175,000

3. The number of unique students that use the library between the
hours of midnight and 8am each year?

Leeds Metropolitan University has libraries on two campuses. We do not
hold information on the number of unique students that use the libraries
between the hours of midnight and 8am each year.
