Weather Operational Plan October 2009
3.2.4 Footways (including pedestrianised areas) and Cycleways
Footways and cycleways shall not receive precautionary salting for
frost and/or ice under normal winter conditions. Post salting of footways
and cycleways may only be carried out on a specified network when
• The 5 day forecast temperature would not rise above zero for
several days; and
• Ice is forecast to form on footways and the condition continues after
midday on any individual day.
The treatment of footways and cycleways should be started as soon as
practicable after precautionary salting routes have been completed and
there is sufficient residual salt to protect main routes against prevailing
conditions (see Appendix H for detailed map).
