Dear Mr/Mrs L Allen,
Thank you for your email dated 3 December, which requested, under the Freedom of Information Act, a breakdown by year of the amount of money or funding that was:
a) Planned to be spent by the department both directly or in support of the Vetting and Barring Scheme
b) Planned to be spent by the department both directly or in support of the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)
c) Actually spent by the department directly or in support of the Vetting and Barring Scheme
d) Actually spent by the department directly or in support of the Independent Safeguarding Authority
I attach a table that contains the Department of Health (DH) programme budget for 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 for the implementation of the Vetting and Barring Scheme, and the actual outturn spending in each year except 2009-10, for which outturn spending is not yet available. This answers questions (a) and (c) above.
The Vetting and Barring Scheme is part funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) (two thirds share) and part funded by the Department of Health (one third share). The figures given in the table are the DH contribution to the programme.
