Information Request: FR1612
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 27/11/2009. Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act and is detailed below in italics with our response.
Your original request is detailed below in italics.
Please provide details of the numbers of children who live in
Northamptonshire and are receiving education in any educational
establishment, who do not live in Northamptonshire but attend
school in Northamptonshire or who are not receiving any education
at all.
Please provide figures for school years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and
projected figures for school year 2010.
Please separate the data into looked after and not looked after
children.
Please also separate the data into: reception, year 1 - 2, year 3 -
6, year 7 - 9, year 10 - 11.
I would like the data broken down as follows:
Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and receiving education in
Northamptonshire schools;
Total no. not resident in Northamptonshire but receiving education
in Northamptonshire schools;
Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and being educated at home;
Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and receiving education in
privately run schools;
Total no. not resident in Northamptonshire but receiving education
in privately run Northamptonshire schools;
Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and receiving education in
state schools in other counties;
Total no. living in Northamptonshire not receiving education;
Total no. not receiving education who within the previous 6 months
received education in a Northamptonshire school and are not living
in Northamptonshire.
I understand this will be a snapshot of the data held for the end
of a school year and depending on the data you provide, I may later
request a more detailed breakdown showing the movements of children
in and out of education and educational establishments.
Please also include Northamptonshire County Council's strategy for
identifying and dealing with children not receiving education.
Including information sharing strategies with other local
authorities.
Our Response
Please see excel sheet attached separately. It is split by year groups and children in care, as far as possible, but where numbers went too small they have been left as a total instead of for all year groups. The relevant points to note about the data, is it comes from School Census data, so does the address, and looked after status that the school has recorded for the children and does not include any private schools or Academy data.
Q. Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and receiving education in
privately run schools;
A. NCC does not hold any private schools or Academy data.
Q. Total no. not resident in Northamptonshire but receiving education
in privately run Northamptonshire schools;
A. NCC does not hold any private schools or Academy data.
Q. Total no. resident in Northamptonshire and receiving education in
state schools in other counties;
A. The funding for pupils comes direct from the DCSF and is dependant on which establishment the pupil is educated at and which LA that school is connected to, this may not always follow the same as county borders.
There are no issues about reclaiming funding. The only exception to this is where a SEN pupil is educated in a different authority to where they reside as the educating authority will receive the main core funding per pupil form the DCSF through the DSG but the extra expense for SEN is reclaimed from the LA where the pupil resides in.
