Dear Ms Oliver,

Request for Information

Thank you for your correspondence dated 19th November 2009 regarding causes of UK casualties in Afghanistan, which is considered to be a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. I am responding on behalf of the information holders.

You asked:

1. Can you provide a breakdown of the diseases and 'other' causes

of casualties for UK Military personnel in Afghanistan for 2006,

2. Can you provide a breakdown of the diseases and 'other' causes

of fatalities for UK Military personnel in Afghanistan for 2006,

If you are unhappy with this response or any part of our handling of your FOI requests then you may apply for an internal review by contacting the Director of Information Exploitation, 6th Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail: [email address]). Please note that any request for an internal review must be made within two calendar months of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has come to an end.

If you are still unhappy following an internal review, you may take your complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act.  Please note that the Information Commissioner will not normally investigate your case until the MOD internal review process has been completed.  Further details of the role and powers of the Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website, http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk.
