Further to your email of 3 March, I can now provide you with some information in response to your original request of 14 November. Sorry for the consideration delay in responding.
You asked for the basic pay of a Local Commissioner for each year since 1974. You also asked what the additional payments made to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission were for each year.
We are not able to provide this information for every year going back to 1974. We do not hold information going back that far. I attach a table which shows the salaries for the last nine years. This is as far back as our records go. This shows the salary for a Local Commissioner, the additional amount paid to the Chairman on top of this (and the Chairman's salary in total). The extra amount paid to the Vice Chairman was £1,000 per annum throughout this period.
As I mentioned in my previous letter, the Commission is informed each year of the salary of each Commissioner by the relevant Government Department - there is not a basic salary and then an additional payment for being Chair or Vice Chair as such.
You also asked for details of other benefits, such as enhanced pension benefits, and the authority for providing them. There were no such benefits made to any Commissioners during this period.
