Dear Mr Hardwicke Carruthers

Request for information

In your email of 14 November, you asked for the basic pay of a Local Commissioner for each year since 1974. You also asked what the additional payments made to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission for each year.

I have not been able to extract this information yet, but I can tell you that the Commission is informed each year of the salary of each Commissioner by the relevant Government Department - there is not a basic salary and then an additional payment for being Chair or Vice Chair as such.

You also asked for details of other benefits, such as enhanced pension benefits, and the authority for providing them. I have not been able to assemble this information yet either. I cannot provide a full response until the New Year. This is due to pressure of work - particularly the number of Freedom of Information requests received in recent weeks.
