Dear Mr Watters

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0896/2009

I refer to your request for information dated 13 November 2009, which was received by
Strathclyde Police on that date. Your request has now been considered and on 2 December
2009, a decision was made to grant your request in full.  As such, the information you have
requested is detailed below.

I am looking to obtain figures in relation to the numbers and ranks of Police Officers who
retired from service in Strathclyde and joined the Strathclyde Pension Fund, between 26
August 2006 and 30 November 2006 both dates inclusive.

I have interpreted your request as referring to all officers who retired between 26 August 2006
and 30 November 2006, inclusive, and who were members of the Strathclyde Pension Fund.  I
have considered those officers who have retired due to reaching the age limit, reaching 30
years’ service, on medical grounds and those who have retired then subsequently rejoined
under the 30+ scheme.  I have not included those who were killed on duty/died in service,
those who resigned for any reason and those who transferred to a different police force.  The
information is replicated in the table below.

RANK
NUMBER OF RETIRALS
Constable
39
Sergeant 16
Inspector 13
Chief Inspector

Superintendent 3
TOTAL 76

I hope this information is helpful, however, if you are not satisfied with the way in which
your request has been dealt with, you are entitled in the first instance to request a review of
the decision made by the Force.  Should you wish to request such a review, please write to
