Cambridgeshire UKYP is split into the three geographical areas: South Cambs and
City, East Cambs and Fenland, North Cambs and Huntingdon.
Through the participating schools, a Member of Youth Parliament and a Deputy
Member of Youth Parliament is elected - which makes 2 young representatives in
each area.
Ater piloting a two year term in East Cambs and Fenland in 2006, at the request of
the members involved, a vote for a county-wide two year term was cast. The vote
was successful and all MYPs and DMYPs began a 2 year term in 2008. This means that
the current MYPs and their Deputies are currently coming to the end of their first year,
and have another year in post. The next election will be in 2011.
Independent schools in Cambs have been invited to take part in the UKYP elections
but over the last three years, have declined to participate.

In 2007/08 Cambs UKYP MYPs were attendees on the BDA Board. This board is no
longer running. An action plan is currently being put together to enable the UKYP and
other interested young people (through the non elected Youth Assembly) to promote
local democracy for young people. A snapshot of proposals are listed below:
• CYP Scrutiny are planning on inviting young people to attend Scrutiny meetings
to enable young people to inform the committee’s programme of work.
• Joint annual Seminar for Members and young people planned - informed by
generic issues arising from the Youth Assembly and UK Youth Parliament.
