Mr Stephen Maguire

Dear Mr Maguire

FOI Request: Joined Up Learning/Thinking Project

Thank you for your FOI request regarding the above subject. I have now collated the appropriate information and offer you the following response:

Question 1: The direct costs to East Dunbartonshire of this project. By this, I mean payments to persons or agencies who are not directly employed by EDC.

Answer 1: £31,000 - £25,000 came from the Curriculum for Excellence budget and £6,000 came from the Determined to Succeed ring-fenced budget.

Major benefits include:

Question 2: the value of any purchases that are associated with the initiative.

Answer 2: 7 DVDs - `In the hands of Willie Rodger' - £1050 - legacy resource for schools - included in costs above (Answer 1)

30 text books `The Colour of Black and White' - £270 - legacy resource for schools - included in costs above (Answer 1)

Question 3: If available, I wish to see copies of documents that would show how the budget for the project was allocated and approved.

Answer 3: Curriculum for Excellence Strategic Planning Group - extract from a minute of the meeting that took place on 7 May 2009 at Turnbull High School:

10. Potential Inter-Disciplinary Project - Secondaries

KK distributed papers from Literacy and English Outcomes and Experiences (April 2009) and an item from TES Scotland on the successful project working with Willie Rodger through the schools' Glow intranet system. Twenty-four teachers and 480 pupils will be involved in this. Priorities are Active Learning & AifL; teachers and pupils working and learning together show good practice in secondary schools. This is also an excellent opportunity to become more familiar with Glow. There is an opportunity for others to become involved although funding is still to be agreed. AS is in favour of taking this project forward as EDC's main focus on inter-disciplinary learning and KK will speak to secondary HTs at their next meeting to see if they are interested.

Meeting of secondary Headteachers - extract from minute of the meeting that took place on 9 May 2009 at Woodhill Evangelical Church:
