Response from Children, Schools and Families

1. Internet Safety Education provided as part of the school curriculum.

- Within your schools is there a specific program aimed at teaching children about staying safe online, including cyber bullying been integrated into the curriculum?  This varies from school to school and is not necessarily bound to the curriculum, some schools actively promote safety and staying safe online where others are yet to engage or put steps in place.

- If yes, who is responsible for delivery and what accreditations/training have they received? For example, teacher, CEOP trained ambassador.

Delivery of safety awareness takes multiple forms, from the Information Management Team CEOP trained staff can attend schools (upon the schools request) to deliver safety presentations aimed at staff, children or parents.

In school the teachers may take practical steps in lessons to ensure safety is considered when using IT.

Schools are actively encouraged to have AUP (Acceptable Use Policies) for both staff and pupils as well as encouraged to be SMART online.

- If yes, how often is internet safety training integrated into the school curriculum, i.e. weekly, monthly etc.  This varies from school to school.

- If no, what steps/timeframes are being taken for implementation?  This varies from school to school.

2. Internet Filtering

- Do the primary and secondary schools within your authority have internet filtering in place?  Yes all schools under the jurisdiction of Cornwall LA have a filtered Internet connection through the SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning). Some schools may have additional filtering in place.

- If yes, what tools do you use? For example Hardware or Software?  The SWGfL provides hardware based filtering which a school can customise to meet their needs. See:  http://swgfl.org.uk/Services/SWGfL-Filtering

- If yes, what is the name of your internet filtering supplier and when was their contract last renewed/due for renewal?  The South West Grid for Learning trust. Contact them on 01392 381371 or e-mail [email address]

breach of Internet Filtering where children were able to access

pornography or Indecent images. Please provide details of School

Type(Primary or Secondary), Date of Breach and Type of Unsuitable

material accessed.
