REQUEST FOR INFORMATION |
|
|
THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 |
|
Dear Mrs Fitzsimons, |
|
I refer to your recent request for information, apologies for the delay in responding to this. Please find attached responses to your questions below:
1. Internet Safety Education provided as part of the school curriculum.
Within your schools is there a specific program aimed at teaching children about staying safe online, including cyber bullying been integrated into the curriculum?
All schools have been provided with a range of e-safety learning and teaching materials for primary and secondary pupils, staff and parents/carers and have had opportunities to attend training in their use. These are the CEOP 'Think U Know' , Childnet and BECTa materials. This training is ongoing for headteachers and school staff and will be extended to cover parents and foster carers in the Spring of 2010.
If yes, who is responsible for delivery and what accreditations/training have they received? For example, teacher, CEOP trained ambassador.
The Salford local authority curriculum ICT team each hold CEOP Ambassador Trainer status. These staff have carried out a series of training sessions for headteachers, child protection leads and other local authority staff who support schools. Secondary schools have been encouraged to enrol a member of staff on CEOP Ambassador Training.
If yes, how often is internet safety training integrated into the school curriculum, i.e. weekly, monthly etc
As described above, all schools have been provided with advice and guidance on ways in which to integrate e-safety themes and issues into the day to day experience of pupils in the classroom. It is for schools themselves to determine the exact operation manner in which this will be done. In secondary schools, e-safety themes and topics have been integrated in the Key Stage Three Year 7 curriculum since September 2008 and in Year 8 from September 2009. It is anticipated that similar currulum arrangements for e-safety wil be provided from Sept 2010 and 2011 for all other pupils.
2. Internet Filtering
Do the primary and secondary schools within your authority have internet filtering in place?
Yes
If yes, what tools do you use? For example Hardware or Software?
The Tool which is used is called ContentKeeper and is a mixed hardware and software based system
If yes, what is the name of your internet filtering supplier and when was their contract last renewed/due for renewal?
ContentKeeper, and the contract was last renewed in April 09 and due for renewal in April 2010
3. Internet Filtering Breaches
Have any of the Schools within the past 24 months experienced a breach of Internet Filtering where children were able to access pornography or Indecent images. Please provide details of School Type(Primary or Secondary), Date of Breach and Type of Unsuitable material accessed. If a breach of security occurred how was your authority notified? For example, by a parent, by the school, through an automated alert provided by hardware/software supplier.
No information is held by the authority in relation to this matter. The information, if any, will be held at school level. As schools are separate authorities under the Act, this question will need to be directed to the schools.
I hope this answers your questions sufficiently, however if you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request or wish to make a complaint or appeal against any decision we have made in response to your request you should write in the first instance to Terry Walsh at the following address:
