
A. Internet safety, including cyber bullying, has a high profile and forms part of personal safety programmes within establishments. It will be addressed (age appropriately) with children / young people .It will not be viewed as a one off issue and will be revisited at appropriate points. It will often be a topic for school assemblies and for discussion at parents evenings.
A programme on Internet safety ,aimed at upper primary / lower secondary, produced in consultation with Glasgow Community safety services, has been disseminated to every establishment and will form part of the PSE programme P6/S2
"Think you know" training has been delivered to a number of establishments in conjunction with Glasgow Community Safety Services whose officers are CEOP trained ambassadors.
Education for personal and social development is delivered by class teachers in the primary sector and PSE tutors in the secondary sector. Teachers CPD is delivered through a variety of trainers eg Quality improvement officers, Educational psychologists, RESPECTME, the anti- bullying network, Glasgow Community Safety Officers, often in conjunction with Police and Health colleagues.
2. Internet Filtering

A. Primary Schools & ASL Schools - Serendipity MyFilter Filtering Software - contract renewed 2007, renewal 2012
Secondary Schools - Websense Internet Filtering Software - contracts in place since 2000, renewal 2012
3. Internet Filtering Breaches
- Have any of the Schools within the past 24 months experienced a breach of Internet Filtering where children were able to access pornography or Indecent images. Please provide details of School Type(Primary or Secondary), Date of Breach and Type of Unsuitable material accessed.
A. 23 February 2009 - A primary school pupil reported seeing an inappropriate image on a computer screen - this was subsequently identified as a thumbnail image produced from an inappropriate Google image search initiated by another pupil. The source web-site was blocked my the filtering software and could not be accessed. As a result enhanced management procedures were introduced regarding adherence to the Pupils Acceptable Use Policy and authorisation by parents.
- If a breach of security occurred how was your authority notified? For example, by a parent, by the school, through an automated alert provided by hardware/software supplier.
A. The authority was notified by the acting headteacher at the school.
