Dear Bradley Roberts,
Thank you for your request dated 20/10/2009. This falls to be dealt with under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000. I have listed your question below for reference.
The number of overseas students formerly studying at Grimsby Institute of Further
Education under student visas who have not left the UK on expiration of their visas and for
whom there is now no trace.
I have interpreted ‘former student’ to mean a person who has failed to regularise their stay
and has failed to leave the UK.
The UK Border Agency does not hold the information you have requested.
However, whilst information is not currently held on embarkation of foreign nationals, our
electronic borders (e-Borders) programme wil capture information on individuals before they
travel to the UK. By the end of December 2009, we will capture 60% of passenger
movements in and out of the UK, rising to 95% by the end of 2010.
Further information on the e-borders programme can be found on the UK Border Agency
website.
If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may request an independent internal review of
our handling of your request. Internal review requests should be submitted within two
months of UKBA sending a substantive reply to your original request and should be
addressed to:

remain dissatisfied after this internal review, you wil have a right of complaint to the
Information Commissioner as established by section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act.
Yours sincerely,
