Dear Dr Welford

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Provision of Information

Thank you for your request for information. I have dealt with this in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

In response to your points of clarification in relation to temporary non-personalised cards:

  1. Parental advice is not sought

  2. There is no application form

  3. No personal information is stored on the card chip. The only data stored on the chip is the card number as displayed on the front of the card.

  4. The temporary cards are for cashless catering only and are not linked in any way to the National Entitlement Card or Citizen Account

  5. No personal information is required to obtain a temporary card

With regard to the background information you provided; it would appear that the card you are referring to is one of a small number of cards that were incorrectly printed with the Edinburgh Young Scot logo. They have no validity other than cashless catering and contain exactly the same data as the normal temporary card.

In answer to your specific questions:

  1. These cards are used for both scenarios

  2. The card you describe performs exactly the same function as a standard temporary card.

    1. A standard temporary card has `Temporary Card' and the card number printed on the front. The `One Edinburgh' logo and contact details for the One Edinburgh team are printed on the back.

    2. No personal information is stored on this card

    3. The card does not link in any way to the National Entitlement Card or Citizen Account

If you are not happy with this response, or want to complain about the way in which we handled your application, please write to the Director of Corporate Services; The City of Edinburgh Council, Waverley Court, 4 East Market Street, Edinburgh, EH8 8BG, within 40 working days of receipt of this letter, seeking a review of the response.
