Dear Northern Ireland Audit Office,
Please could you provide a simple list of any Authorities under
your remit where the 2010 audit remains unclosed (I.E. the audit of
the 2009-2010 financial year).
If the information is already published in easily accessible form
online, then a link to the page would be sufficient for my
requirements.
Regards,
Steve Hunt

Dear Mr Hunt,
Further to my e-mail of 16 March. I would be grateful if you could clarify
what you mean by Local Authority. This is a term used in relation to GB
authorities. Local government in NI is constituted differently. By Local
Authorities do you mean Local Councils?
If you wish to discuss this I can be contacted on 028 9025 1068
Thank you
Norma Connelly

Dear Connelly N,
Sorry, I didn't realise the different terminology. Yes, I mean the
local councils that deliver the bulk of public services to members
of the public - the equivalent of the County Councils etc. in
England & Wales.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Hunt

Dear Mr Hunt
I refer to your e-mail dated 16^th March 2011 and further clarification of
your request dated 21^st March 2011.
Please note that the functions undertaken by local councils in Northern
Ireland are not directly comparable with local authorities in Great
Britain. A number of significant public services in Northern Ireland
remain under the responsibility of central government and therefore the
remit of councils here is less than in Great Britain.
In Northern Ireland we have 26 local councils. The 2009-10 financial
statements for each of the councils have been audited and certified and
therefore the audits are closed. A key audit output is the Annual Audit
Letter which councils are required to publish and they normally do so by
placing on their website. Annual Audit Letters for 2009-10 have been
issued for 24 of the councils to date.
Yours sincerely
Norma Connelly
