Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 14/01/2010. Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act and is detailed below in italics with our response.

Further to your reply, I am aware of your letter of 18 November.

However, the DCSF state a home education population figure for

Northamptonshire of 183 on a table compiled from "each local

authority that responded to the questionnaire on home education

distributed in September."

I would therefore ask from where the DCSF obtained this figure of

183?

Our Response

After checking with the relevant department we are unable to comment upon information held by the DCSF, however we do believe that this information was provided to the DCSF via an on-line questionnaire which did not give any option to print or save the responses provided.

Unfortunately due to changes in staff we have not been able to verify the above belief. In addition the Council currently only holds current figures for home education population figures so cannot verify whether this was indeed the figure at the time. This is an area which is being addressed by the department but in the meantime it is suggested that the DCSF should be able to verify the source data.
