Request for Information: Release of Information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000
Thank you for your email which we received on 7 October 2009 in which you
made the following request:
Dear Sir or Madam,
This is a Freedom of Information request. Has the Secretary of State for Defence
made the 'initial gate' decision to proceed with the replacement programme for the
Vanguard class nuclear missile submarines?
If so, have any contracts been issued pursuant to the 'initial gate' decision, and at
what cost?

As at 4 November 2009 the Initial Gate decision for the future Ship
Submersible Ballistic Nuclear (SSBN) has yet to be taken. Therefore, no
contracts pursuant to that decision have been issued.
If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about any

Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal review
