Request :
1. Why is Dyfed Powys Police still called Dyfed Powys when to the best of my knowledge
the county of Dyfed no longer exists and is now called Carmarthenshire?
2. Why was the name of Dyfed Powys police not changed when the county
name changes were made, what is the reason for this?
3. Is Dyfed Powys Police the trading name for the police force of Carmarthenshire?
Response:
1. Dyfed-Powys Police was formally established in 1968 and in spite of changes in
county structures in Wales since, has retained that name (as is the case for the
four other forces in Wales).
2. Dyfed-Powys Police covers four county areas (Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion,
Pembrokeshire and Powys) and the Chief Constable for the force has overall
responsibility for policing these areas under the banner of Dyfed-Powys Police.
We have not been able to locate any information to be able to specifically
respond to your request.
3. Dyfed-Powys Police is not a company and as such does not trade. The force is
made up of four Basic Command Units (BCUs) of which Carmarthenshire is
one.
