Dear Mr J Moore

Re: Your appeal against our original response to your request for information, IGO ref 09-6255

Thank you for your email dated 2nd November 2009.

I have now had the opportunity to investigate your request and my observations are as follows:

It is not compulsory for social workers to have any form of psychological evaluation.

As with any other staff, a referral to Occupational Health would be made, following discussion with the employee, if it was felt that there was a health condition affecting the employee's work.

Any such assessment would be carried out by our Occupational Health service; we keep records on this on the employee's personal file, until this file is destroyed in accordance with our retention and disposal schedule.

All employees complete a pre-employment medical screening questionnaire before they start employment with Nottingham City Council. If someone has a medical condition which means they can not perform a role due to health and safety or if it will have a detrimental impact on their health, then occupational health will offer advice to management accordingly.

On the basis of the above, I therefore do not uphold your complaint.

If you remain dissatisfied after receiving this response to your initial complaint you can request an independent review from the Information Commissioner's Office at FOI/EIR Complaints Resolution, Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. You may also contact the Information Commissioner's Office by telephone on 01625 545745 or by email at [email address].

Yours sincerely
