Annex A
Dear Ian Jackson,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on October 2nd in which you asked:-
Can you please tell me the total number of New Deal only
vacancies advertised at the jobcentre for every month for the last 3
years?
and how much more successful is the New Deal through such
vacancies? (i.e. how many more job outcomes, figure and percentage
of increase)
What law or guidance makes provision for such vacancies and
determines how they are advertised?
Replies to each of your questions follow below:
Jobcentre Plus does not retain vacancy data for more than a year. Vacancies are deleted from the Labour Market System (LMS) database one year after closure. The number of New Deal only vacancies that have been notified to Jobcentre Plus over the last year are contained in the table below.

In answer to the second question the statistics which are available about New Deal participants are published in the DWP Tabulation Tool which is accessible through the following link:
It is possible through this tabulation tool to compare the respective job entries of participants on the Employment Option with those on other Options and Activities (e.g. the Environment Taskforce).
Finally in response to your third question: Section 2 of the Employment and Training Act 1973 enables the Secretary of State to approve arrangements "for the purpose of assisting persons to select, train for, obtain and retain employment suitable for their ages and capacities". The New Deal Employment Subsidy (ND only vacancies) is administered under this Act.
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
