Guide to Council Services 2009 - reader feedback

PostcodeCommentTheme
S8Full of information and helpful about the vast range of services. I would like to see opening times listed especially for libraries. libraries
S11 Sheffield Telegraph Sept 17th 2009 - In an article about parking at Royal Hallamshire Hospital Mr. Scriven mentioned there was a park and ride scheme. I would like to know more about it but unfortunately there is nothing mentioned in this booklet. It sounds like an excellent idea for visiting the hospital.parking
S11 Green bags service is very good. This stops me having many bonfires. Sheffield has no winter bowls areas, Abbeydale applied for a grant but was refused. Evening parking restrictions have stopped us from going to the theatre etc. - no parking near the memorial hall. Parking costs, we now go away from the city centre for shopping. Stupid one way in town - thought out by persons in Barnsley I understand.parking/highways
S2 Hi can you please tell me, why you built lay-bys, was it to stop cars parking on main roads blocking traffic or to stop cars parking on kerbside i.e. grass, pavements, you did it to make life easier for drivers parking in them please check this out. parking
-Why is the grass not recycled from verges? Would it not be a better option to tarmac some or all and place recycling containers on them - cutting out the need for several recycling bins outside each house. It would also cut down on refuse collection. Or fill the verges with low maintenance shrubs/trees and eliminate the grass cutting or rent out as mini allotments. These are vast areas of land, some at least could be put to better use than stagnation. recycling/waste
-What about disgusting rubbish and wheelie bins all over Ecclesall Road all day every day week in week out. Back in my younger day the bin was removed from the back to the side of the road to cause obstruction. We the householder do most of the work sorting out the rubbish. People don't seem to take pride in their work anymore, Veolia included. Blackstock Road tip take pride in keeping the site tidy and the staff are always polite and helpful, pity the rest aren't. recycling/waste
S10 I think Sheffield should have better home recycling facilities such as glass, plastic and tin. If Derbyshire council can provide all of these then surely the 4th largest city in the UK can manage to provide such items.recycling/waste
S10 Herries Road site for receiving large items of rubbish/recycling etc staff unhelpful at all my and other family members visits. Humour but no assistance or helpful answers to questions. Do they need more training and advice with dealing with the public?recycling/waste
S10 RE - the collection of green sacks. Would it be possible to have a designated day for collection? As it stands at present green bags are hanging around for weeks on some occasions and people object to them being left on grass verges for obvious reasons.recycling/waste
S11 Please can we have more information about local facilities for recycling bottles, plastics, tins etc.recycling/waste
S12 You tell us to recycle our rubbish which I do but you send workers to cut the grass on the estates and leave all the grass which has been cut for children to throw it all over. It could be recycled when it is cut.recycling/waste
S13 We currently are supplied wheelie bins for cardboard, garden waste as well as our general waste wheelie bin. Are there any future plans to have a bin for glass and plastics. We spend a lot of time going to recycling centres and sorting the recycling into separate boxes which we supply ourselves. A lot of people would recycle more plastic and glass if a proper bin was provided and collected.recycling/waste
S17 It would be convenient to have a glass/bottle collection bin instead of having to take these to a recycle centre on my way to work. Can we not have a bin for glass please.recycling/waste
S17 We live in Totley but the most convenient recycling place for plastics and bottles seems to be Baslow. There are no lists of recycling sites that I am aware of. A leaflet through the door would be useful. recycling/waste
S17 Leaflet seems comprehensive but so is your entry in the telephone directory. What is the cost of producing x thousands of these leaflets. Can the money be better spent elsewhere (let people use the telephone directory). Has anyone done an analysis (cost benefit) of the street ambassadors - I see them wandering around in pairs but have yet to see anyone approach them for guidance. Can we have recycling bins for green/garden/organic waste. At the moment householders have to ring the council at their own expense. Collect recycling bags from the library (they don't always have them) leave bags outside for collection at an unspecified date for up to one month and last time I did this they were not collected.recycling/waste
S2 Having the biggest garden in area, I don’t understand why I cannot have a green bin as a lady friend of mine never uses hers who lives on Willow Drive. The garden is of course no Norfolk Park and where are the bins for plastic bottle at my house?recycling/waste
S20 I am a widow living alone with a large garden and the garden waste I have is far too much for 1 green bin (at least 6 months of the year). I have no transport to take the excess to the local dump. I have asked the Council if they could supply me with another green bin but am told only 1 green bin per household. Is it possible that I could have some green garden waste bags as well? I would be very glad of your help.recycling/waste
S35 I wish to praise the help and assistance myself and my wife (both disabled) receive from Veolia's employers at High Green recycling centre. Especially noteworthy is the very tall gentleman employee who steps forward immediately to help. Five star marks to him. Also sincere appreciation for the refuse collection assisted service. Top marks again. recycling/waste
S4 In this time of recession I have been extremely worried about the impact of what fly tipping could be having on the company. I have to phone Streetforce on a regular basis and I am still awaiting a response for our reference number xxxxxx. We are trying our best to generate new business and regularly have new customers visiting our company but just lately with all the fly tipping I am sure it is having an impact on our customer base. The fly tipping is nearly every week and the area is getting really bad, we now have rats running across the road during the day. The grass verges are over grown and litter is all over the verges.recycling/waste
S5 I really appreciate the garden waste, green bag scheme. My wife and I are both avid gardeners and there is always waste, privet, pruning's, leaves, greenhouse and garden waste. Having arthritis in both knees it was really hard having to climb the steps to the skip several times at Herries road tip. The free collection is brilliant. What I would like to know is, where can we buy back the muck or compost.recycling/waste
S6 Although I think the free green waste collection is good, it would be nice to have the bags collected quicker as I have on several occasions had to wait 2-3 weeks (summer. Earlier in the year they have been collected in a few days. I do realise that this is due to demand but ------!recycling/waste
S6 Very useful. I've just moved back into Walkley, where I live without a car. The nearest recycling facilities are 10 minutes walk down a steep hill, which isn't a very easy journey with a heavy bag of glass bottles. There are quite a lot of OAP's and students here, many of whom walk or rely on public transport, who would be more likely to recycle if facilities were nearby.recycling/waste
S8 It would be so good to have somewhere to dispose of batteries from torches clocks etc. It is not always easy to get to the tip. If there was something at local recycling places it would be a good help.recycling/waste
S9 Is it possible to have a green bin? For garden waste, I send green bags with garden waste up to 3-5 bags at a time for last few years.recycling/waste
S20 I often wonder why the Council don’t get the young people who are on the dole out gritting the pavements in the winter. Surely in the long run this would save the hospitals the cost of treating people with broken limbs after falls.roads
S6 It is not road signs we need our money spending on, it is road surfaces where it needs to be spent and not just top dressing. Most of Sheffield's roads need major structural repair, potholes everywhere.roads
S8 You have mentioned about road improvements, well Kent road from Gleadless Road to Nicholson Road must be one of the worst in Sheffield. It's uneven, pot-holed and an awful road to cross especially for a disabled person such as my wife and lots more disabled people that live in the area. Its about time it was resurfaced before someone trips over.roads
S3 Why doesn’t the council introduce a window cleaning business. I think it is very much needed.windows
-Please do something regarding the traffic problems at Hartley brook school. From a disgruntled council driver.traffic
S10 This little booklet is amazing. Thank you so much for all you do for us in Sheffield including providing this helpful booklet which is so comprehensive leaving no stone unturned. Now we can call the right number for the right reason, at the right time - and not pester the wrong person/department.General comment
S10 Thank you for the very useful booklet: What the council is doing for you. Thank you for services available and the improvement in the city centre. Thank you for council housing. I have asked (02.09.09) re possibility re floor covering in stairwells. To help with my cleaning them.General comment
S11 I found the booklet to be very informative and will keep it for future reference. As a relative newcomer to Sheffield the frequent information provided by the Council is particularly useful and much appreciated.General comment
S11 Excellent publication. I will use it a lot.General comment
S11 Your booklets are very good, a lot of good information where to go where to eat, all the council services plus hospital phone no's and travel information. These little booklets are brilliant so much reading in so small books.General comment
S11 A very comprehensive and informative booklet. Very helpful.General comment
S11 I find this booklet the best I've seen. It's comprehensive and clear. Very useful. Congratulations to all concerned in its publication.General comment
S12Informative and good layoutGeneral comment
S13A very useful information booklet. All the numbers we need to know in one handy booklet. No need for searching through the telephone directory for hours now.General comment
S13 The Guide to Council Services is a great little book. It is really easy to understand and as a pensioner I find this a god send. This is far easier to find things, as the Sheffield telephone directory is a nightmare. General comment
S17 Excellent, contact numbers very useful.General comment
S17 What a useful guide. So many services provided. It is so much better to have a direct contact number than go to one main number to be redirected. I will personally find the libraries so useful, as well as the council services. A booklet definitely for keeping by the phone.General comment
S17 Why are the pages arranged to open vertically? This makes the booklet more awkward to look through. Most books do not open this way.General comment
S18 Full of very good information and facts.General comment
S20 This is a very useful booklet and a handy size to keep and refer to. The info is clear and concise. However it's a shame that some of the info is on the back of this form.General comment
S20 After seeing other council info on services, in the past this is without doubt the most comprehensive of any I have come across. Absolute clarity in the layout making it very clear to follow.General comment
S3 This is a very useful booklet. I help myself find the information but I always keep it in my hackney cab to help anyone in need of information. Very handy document.General comment
S3 Most of this information (tel no's) is in the telephone book already. It’s a shame that some very useful numbers are on the back of this feedback form. We've already missed the events in the first 3 weeks of September advertised in Your Sheffield. Can it be easier next time? otherwise your Sheffield was very interestingGeneral comment
S35 In order to give my comments, I have had to copy out all the re-cycling information on the back of the page. The layout of the information is very confusing and assumes everyone has access to a computer, e.g.Parks and Countryside entry.General comment
S35 I am totally amazed by this publication which is basically a council telephone directory. This document plus the Your Sheffield document must have cost a fortune to put together and print. What a waste of taxpayers money in such difficult times. What about free swimming for children and pensioners?General comment
S36 In Sheffield as a whole, the most pressing problem myself and others are concerned about is the lack of toilet facilities. When shopping at Hillsborough centre, the Co-op used to be a place everyone used, until they changed this, due to all the use it got. Apparently there's a box we found you could use out of the way of the main shops. As I'm disabled, this isn't convenient. In Ecclesfield and Hillsborough parks there's nowhere for the grandchildren to go and where all the paedophiles are, its concerning.General comment
S5I bought my council house some years ago and it would be a big big help if I could use council services for repairs. I would certainly be prepared to pay council for a good job done. At least I'd know the job would be done right.General comment
S5I think this is very very good. People can now get the number without the need of the phonebook because in the phonebook some of these numbers are not in. So think this will help people and me a lot.General comment
S6 Two large, colour, glossy magazines arrive on the same day from council tax payers money. I'd prefer to opt to have the info by email if you gave me the option, better for the environment too. Or, for Your Sheffield why not use the local mags, to get the articles out for free. As for the the directory of services I have a phone book and the Internet, so it'll go straight in the bin. I already have a very good idea what the Council does for me and other Sheffield residents, so find it quite unnecessary. If you must produce booklets why not have local companies advertising in them to cover the costs? Use cheaper paper and less colours to reduce costs.General comment
S6 This is an excellent little booklet with all the necessary addresses, telephone numbers and information on all the Council Departments/Services in a helpful and easy to understand format. It's also great to have everything together in one place rather than scouring the telephone directory for ages.General comment
S6 I think this small booklet is great and look forward to the new one each year. Things are easy to find and very informative. I keep this in my desk and use it often. However, I don’t know why you had to change the pages round inside, it's much better as a booklet with pages from left to right. The same as a book. General comment
S6 First of all, may I just say that the information that you have sent to everyone in Sheffield is just so brilliant, and there is everything that a person wants to know about in that little guide book, so may I say thank you all very much indeed and may god keep you all in good health. And keep up the good work. General comment
S6 Congratulations in distributing the handy little book of useful information, it is very helpful. I find the council services very good, couldn’t be better, perfect services, keep it up.General comment
S6 A very helpful and informative book.General comment
S6 I am impressed by the extensive list of departments but was amazed that there was no helpline service listed for senior citizens. There must be many pensioners who need help with benefits available, including the right of many to get a pension top up. Put yourself in the shoes of a poor elderly pensioner who may live alone and would dearly love advice from someone. A pity such a comprehensive list omitted one of the most disadvantaged groups.General comment
S7 I am very happy with everything in Sheffield. We have everything, libraries, buses, free advice centres, free doctors and hospitals and I think we are very lucky to have a National Health Service that we have. I was one of 15 children and I wish my mother would have been as lucky as we are today. I've a lot to thank NHS for, how my husband was cared for and my daughter also. This is a very handy book. I am 78 yrs of age.General comment
S8 It's very useful to have this guide updated every year but please next time revert to the tried and tested format of a traditional book format. Printing the information sideways on might look trendy but is not convenient for reference.General comment
S8 I for one have grumbled over the years about the Council, but having read your book (what the council does for you) I am amazed at the amount of subjects you deal with. No more grumbles from me, you are doing a magnificent job. I am proud to live in Sheffield with a caring council.General comment
S9I will find this guide very useful, I am an OAP and every service and telephone number I may need now and in the future is contained in one handy size booklet. You appear to have covered every eventuality and the map is very good. This guide will stay by my phone comfortably.General comment
S9 A very handy little booklet to have next to the phone as all no's included. Packed with lots of useful information and I enjoyed reading about some things I knew nothing about.General comment
S9 I think the council services are getting more up to date for the 21st century and the modern age of today, with computers and all the advances made in the last ten years is unbelievable to think of, as now. General comment
S6I found your guide to council services and numbers very useful, as I have just moved into a new home.General comment
S13My daughter and I have just moved into a 2 bed flat and I must say that I am very happy and surprised at the quality of the flat and the services that Sheffield council provide. The security of the flat is second to none and I must say a big ‘thank you’ for making us feel safe in what I hope will be our home for many years to come.General comment
S10Lots of useful information here – a resource to keep hold of! As a student, much of the info isn’t particularly relevant , but it will be for the many others who require it. Clear and well labelled for quick access. Please continue your excellent work which makes Sheffield a wonderful place to live.General comment
S17The free green waste service is excellent. The condition of pavements is not good. Too many bus stops are blocked by cars etc. This means that it is difficult to enter and exit buses, which is not good for the disabled, mums and children or the elderly. There should also be more development of reliable local traders/workmen lists by the Trading Standards team. Overall the council do better but not bad overall. I found the booklet useful.General comment
S36The information given is clear and easy to find. My only wish is that the booklet should have a hard back, because it will often be referred to, it would last a lot longer and be easier to find.General comment
S7This booklet contains a very fine and comprehensive list of services and information provided by Sheffield City Council – all in one place. Regular feedback from Sheffield citizens keep the council in touch with public opinion.General comment
S4I find the Council Guide invaluable! Its been really useful for me over the last year especially with problems with neighbours and Libraries. So glad its updated yearly as my last one got recycled by accident!General comment
S10Have you considered putting garden waste collection tanks/containers at glass/plastic recycling centre locations to reduce the distances by your courier/drivers.General comment
S17I am in favour of the saving of garden waste in the green bags provided, but the infrequent collection of bags is making our area an eyesore. It takes on average about three weeks before the bags are collected, meanwhile they block the pavement, often burst open and so look very unsightly. If we knew when the collection would be, as it is with the paper bins, at least the bags would remain in the garden out of sight until the said date. I hope something can be done and so give us back a tidy Dore.General comment
