Dear Mr Jackson

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on the 22nd September 2009. You asked for:-

How many New Deal participants left (prematurely without securing employment) or were exited each year since the New Deal scheme began.

Section 21 of the Act allows us to direct you to information which is already reasonably accessible to you. The Department publishes a wide range of statistics on benefit claimants and expenditure on its website www.dwp.gov.uk and on the Nomis website www.nomisweb.co.uk , which is the Office for National Statistics' official website of labour market statistics, both of which allow you to construct your own tables.

For your query:

To produce statistics on how many people left New Deal each year and their destination on leaving, click the following link http://research.dwp.gov.uk/asd/tabtool.asp

Select Employment Programmes.

Then select the New Deal scheme which you are interested in (the information you require is currently only available for New Deal for Young People and New Deal 25plus).

From the drop-down menu select `Leavers (Spells)'.

For Analysis, select `Leavers (thousands)'.

For Row, select `Time Series - Year of Leaving'.

For Column, select `Immediate destination on leaving'.

For Subset, select `None'.

For Date, select `February 2009'.

Click on `Get Table'.

Yours sincerely,

DWP Central FoI Team
