Dear Mr Bateman

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION APPLICATION REFERENCE NO: 1303/08

Thank you for your request for information received by Lancashire Constabulary on the 18th August 2008, which was as follows:-

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I am interested In the number of times Lancashire Constabulary have been asked to attend a search warrant issued on behalf of the Television Licensing Authority (Capita) or the British Broadcasting corporation within the last twelve months.

Your request has been considered and unfortunately the information you are seeking cannot be supplied at this stage.

The Constabulary's Incident Recording System does not have a specific incident category for searches on behalf of Capita or the BBC. Such incidents would fall under `Code 541 - Police Generated Resource Activities'. Therefore, to find details of such searches all Incident Reports under this code would have to be researched into. As there were 39143 incidents of this nature in the last financial year, it is not possible to complete this research task within the `Appropriate Limit' (as defined in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004). As a result, Section 12 applies and Lancashire Constabulary cannot provide you with this information at present.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Lancashire Constabulary.

Yours sincerely

Paul Walker
