Dear Lorna
Your Reference Number is F0001855
I am writing in response to your request for information of 18th September 2009 about children below the age of 16 who had been sexually molested or sexually abused in Cumbria in 2004/5.
Requests for information are processed according to 3 Rights of Access laws, briefly explained below:
Data Protection Act 1998 enables you to access information held about you (for example your own education, medical records, credit reference files, personnel file etc.)
Environmental Information Regulations 2004 enable you to access environmental information relating to air, water, land, natural sites, flora and fauna, the built environment, the food chain and health. It also covers information relating to decisions or activities affecting, or likely to affect any of these.
Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you the general right of access to all types of `recorded' information held by public authorities, including Government Offices.
Unless the information requested is specifically exempt from release by the laws governing these pieces of legislation you have the right to know if the information exists and have it supplied upon request.
I can confirm that the Government Office North West does not hold this information.
Some statistical information around numbers of children on the Child Protection Registers can be found on the DCSF website
On the Home page click on Tables and Statistics/Research and Statistics and then Keyword. From the selection available choose Child Protection and then 2004.

Government Office aims to be as helpful as possible in the way it deals with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004. If, however, you are not satisfied with the way in which your request has been handled or the outcome, you may appeal by requesting an internal review within two calendar months of the date of this letter. Information about Government Office review procedures and how to apply for an internal review of your case is contained in the enclosed leaflet. This also explains your right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision in the event that you remain dissatisfied following the authority's review. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the internal review procedure described in the leaflet.
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
Yours sincerely
