Dear Mr Baker,

Research regarding tyre wear and speed cushions

Thank you for your email of 18 November 2009 requesting an internal review of our
response to your Freedom of Information request no. F0005890.

I have now completed a review of your correspondence with the Department on this
matter. I apologise for any confusion or misunderstanding on our part and trust that the
answers below provide the information you require.

Question: Is TRL report 614 the only research that has been done on the effect of speed
cushions on vehicles and/or tyres?

Answer: Yes. DfT is not aware of any other research into the effect of speed cushions on
vehicles.

Question: Does TRL report 614 cover the impact of speed cushions on tyres?

Answer: No.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner
can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely,
