This contravention deals with vehicles turning in a banned right direction.
Evidence required for the issue of a PCN
• Evidence must show that the driver of the vehicle could see the sign
and failed to comply
Method of Gathering Evidence:
• In all cases, whether for signs or markings, it will be a pre-requisite of
evidence, that a record has been made that day, or at the time of
contravention, that the sign or markings were present, correctly
orientated and in good condition.
a) A record must be maintained of the vehicle approaching in the
direction of the mandatory sign. Suggest the vehicle be followed for a
distance of 20 metres, shown to fail to comply with the sign and seen
to continue on its route having failed to do so.
b) The CCTV operator should follow the vehicle capturing the offence or
contravention, Vehicle Registration Mark, Make and Model and, if
practicable, signage. The vehicle must then be shown to fail to
comply and continue on its route.
c) A contemporaneous record of the Camera No, Location, Time, Date,
Vehicle Description, Signage (Box Junction, Banned Turn etc.,) must
be kept by the EO and made available on request to authorised
personnel.
Prohibited Manoeuvre (2)
Sign reference: 613 TSR&GD 1994 – Failure to comply with a sign indicating
a prohibited left turn.
This contravention deals with vehicles turning in a banned left direction.

This contravention deals with traffic failing to turn ahead as directed by a road
sign.

• Evidence needs to show vehicle passing advance sign and then fail to
make prescribed turn
Method of Gathering Evidence:
• In all cases, whether for signs or markings, it will be a pre-requisite
of evidence, that a record has been made that day, or at the time
of contravention, that the sign or markings were present, correctly
orientated and in good condition.
a) A record must be maintained of the vehicle approaching in the
direction of the advanced sign and passing it. As above for sign
606, suggest the advance sign be captured along with the vehicle
approaching it, for approximately 20 metres. Both close up and
contextual images required.
b) The CCTV operator should follow the vehicle capturing the
distance, Vehicle Registration Mark, Make and Model and, if
practicable, signage. The vehicle must then be shown to fail to
comply and continue on its route.

Mandatory Manoeuvre (3)
Sign Reference: 610 TSR&G Failing to comply with the directional
requirements of a sign.
This contravention deals with traffic failing to pass a directional sign indicating
passage to the left or right of the sign.

• Evidence needs to show vehicle failing to comply with the indication
given by the sign to turn either left or right

vehicles should not stop.

Box Junction Contravention (1)
Sign reference: 1043/1044 TSR&GD 1994 – Entering and stopping in a box
junction when prohibited.
This contravention deals with vehicles entering a designated box junction
when they are not permitted (unless turning right provided their exit is clear).

• Evidence must show that the driver of the vehicle could see the road
markings and failed to comply
Method of Gathering Evidence:
• In all cases, whether for signs or markings, it will be a pre-
requisite of evidence, that a record has been made that day, or at
the time of contravention, that the sign or markings were present,
correctly orientated and in good condition.
a) A record must be maintained of the vehicle
approaching in the
direction of the box junction,
proceed into the box junction
illegally and STOP. A suggested period of 5 seconds is sufficient
to prove the vehicle was STATIONARY and its exit route was
NOT CLEAR.
b) 50% of the vehicle’s total length should be shown to be in the Box
Junction. However each case should be evaluated accordingly,
taking account of the contravening vehicle’s total length.
c) The CCTV operator should follow the vehicle capturing the
offence or contravention, Vehicle Registration Mark, Make and
Model and, if practicable, signage. The vehicle must then be
shown to fail to comply and continue on its route.
d) A contemporaneous record of the Camera No, Location, Time,
Date, Vehicle Description, Signage (Box Junction, Banned Turn
etc.,) must be kept by the EO and made available on request to
authorised personnel.
