Mr Starkey
Freedom of Information Act 2000: External recruitment
Thank you for your FOI request dated 12 August 2008, which was received the
following day.
You asked for –
the number of job vacancies that were externally advertised by the department
broken down between April 07 to April 08 and between 1st April 2008 to 30th
June 2008.
Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, a public authority must
inform a requestor if information matching the description specified in a request is
held. Technically, I must therefore inform you that we do not hold information relating
to the number of vacancies advertised externally, as requested. This is because,
although we ran a number of recruitment campaigns, some were volume campaigns,
where the number of vacancies was not necessarily determined at the outset. In
such cases the number of actual positions to be filled can alter during the course of
the campaign.
During the period 1 April 2007 – 31 March 2008 (last financial year) the Treasury ran
36 external recruitment campaigns, and 17 during the period 1 April 2008 – 30 June
2008 (the first quarter of the current financial year). To be helpful, I can let you know
that during the 2007/08 financial year 67 officials were appointed via external
recruitment campaigns, and 17 were appointed during the period 1 April – 30 June
2008.
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. It will be helpful to us if
you remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
