Thank you for your enquiry dated 12th August 2008 for information under the Freedom of 
Information (FoI) Act 2000. 
You asked: 
how much money is used for conservation each year (for the last 20 years) and 
who (names of organisations) that money is distributed to each year (for the last 
5 years). 

We interpret your request to mean how much public expenditure is incurred in this area. 
HM Treasury does not hold this information; of necessity our information is at a more 
strategic level.  However, we have contacted Defra who confirm that they do hold 
relevant information.  You can put a request to them via the Defra helpline at 
[email address]. You may wish to consider a more closely focussed 
request, as conservation is a broad term encompassing aspects of biodiversity, habitat 
protection and leisure amenity. 
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us at the email account given in
