Dear Mr Bohm,
Re: Freedom of Information Act request, reference 0656-09
Thank you for your email of 12 August 2009
in which you asked:
“I understand that the Communications Electronic Security Group (CESG) operates a Public
Key Infrastructure to enable electronic signatures made by participating public sector bodies
to be checked for authenticity.
I understand from the Home Office that yours is the responsible department for CESG,
which is part of GCHQ.
Please provide a copy of the public key.”
I am writing to advise you that the information you requested is not held by the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office. However, I understand that if you wish to contact CESG directly at
[email address] with a request outside the Freedom of Information Act, they will
be able to provide you with a copy of the Public Key Infrastructure. I apologise for the
circuitous nature of this response but I believe this is the simplest way for you to obtain the
information you seek.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an
internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date
of receipt of the response to your original letter and should be addressed to me at the
address above.
Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can
be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF
Yours sincerely,
