FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST
I am writing in respect of your recent application for the release of information held by this
authority.
The response is detailed below and will be published on the Teignbridge District Council

hope you will find this area the web of interest, as it also provides information of previously
supplied information.
You requested information on planning applications featuring a change of use from A1
(shop), under the Town & Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 over the last 5
years. I have to advise that the search facility on our software only allows us to search on
applications which mention ‘A1’ in the proposal description and may not necessarily catch
all the applications for change of use from A1 if the words A1 were not mentioned in the
description.

The number of planning applications received featuring a change of use from A1 =
52.
2.
The number which were retrospective – 1.
3.
The number of planning applications received from Starbucks (or their
representatives) featuring a change of use from A1 – none.
4.
The number of applications in 3. above which were retrospective – not applicable.
If you disagree with our decision or are otherwise unhappy with how we have dealt with
your request, you may use the Council’s Complaints Procedure by writing to the Council
for a review of the decision. The review will be undertaken by the appropriate Service
Lead, who will provide you with a written explanation of the outcome. If you are not
satisfied with the outcome provided by the Service Lead you may ask for the matter to be
referred to our Chief Executive.
If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint once the Council’s complaints
procedure has been followed, you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner
(ICO). Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
complaints procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be
